An Atlanta Retreat

documentary picture of Father son hikingPINIMAGE

If you’re looking for a place to cool off during these hot summer days, you might enjoy this hiking spot our family loves to visit. Sweetwater Creek Sate Park is located only twenty miles from the heart of Atlanta and a great retreat from the hurry of the city. You can expect easy to moderate hiking–pretty much perfect for kids with lots of energy; a canopy of green trees; river views; a five-story, Civil War era cotton mill ruins; and a waterfall.

The waterfall is located at the end of two of three trails.  So far we only get halfway through the medium-length trail because: WATER. We normally keep the boys hiking for about thirty minutes before the water’s call becomes irresistible.

Insider Tip: The entrance fee is pretty minimal, but if you’re a GA resident you can bypass it completely by borrowing the state park pass from the library.
